Opioid interventions are important days
When your loved ones arrive at their location, weeks of planning are starting to pay off. The head of the family or intervention specialist will explain to the addict why this meeting is being held, and the family will begin reading their personal letter to the addict about their addiction. After each letter was completed, the family asked the addict to enroll in a special program to treat their addiction. Once your loved one agrees to start treatment, the procedure is complete.
It is important to note that while many opioid interventions have been successful, unfortunately, many have not. People often go through a series of steps before making major changes in their lives.
Most healthcare specialists and addiction counselors recognize five main stages of change, and these include:
a) Preview : This is the stage where the addict can say and think it’s okay without having to change anything.
b) Thinking : This is a place where they can acknowledge the problem and consider doing something about it in the future, or they can acknowledge their problem but also think that it is a busy time in their life or overwhelmed to do anything about it right now.
c) Determination: At this point, the addict is ready to make some changes, even if they don’t have a solid plan to make those changes yet.
d) Action : This is when they are truly committed to the treatment center and will take appropriate steps to change.
e) Support: They work hard at being calm, aware, and staying sober.
If an addict who really wants to change their life is approached by their family with an intervention, you might think that this person will accept the offer of treatment. However, not everyone is at that stage in their life or determination phase of change when the opioid intervention occurs. So an intervention can help someone who is resisting or unwilling to start by being more open about the addictive conversation later. Unfortunately, some people are so caught up in their drug addiction that they don’t see the need for change in their life, so this intervention may not motivate the person to make changes at this time. However, it could sow the seeds of future changes to come.
Responsibility is key in treating addiction
Sometimes the consequences are what the addict needs to see to realize the importance of treatment. Family members can read the last page of each successive intervention letter and tell the addict about the potential consequences of rejection. Many addicts are motivated to seek treatment after realizing that otherwise, they will lose access to money, homes, or children. But, some people who are addicts will not be motivated by this. There are published studies showing that many addicts commit only when ordered to get treatment or they will be put behind bars. Since families usually can’t imprison their loved ones, they don’t have that option. However, they may indicate that a person may end up in prison if they continue to violate certain laws with their insane addiction acts. This will convince a number of addicts to seek opioid addiction treatment.
Once an addict agrees to participate in an opioid treatment program, their family must immediately transfer the person into the program. When a family achieves a breakthrough, it is very important to take advantage of it while things are fresh in the mind of the addict. In the meantime, the family has not only notified the selected opioid treatment program of the arrival of an addict, but has likely paid all entry fees to the rehab center.
