Be Patient and Be In The Present

You will eventually be confronted with temptation. Everyone goes through this. The more you resist, the stronger you will become next time. Each time you resist temptation you strengthen the neural pathways in your brain. You will get stronger every time you say no.

Your willpower is only limited by your belief in yourself. It can never be depleted.

Stick to Good Nutrition and Healthy Eating Habits

When people use alcohol> they rarely eat well. This is why they have vitamin deficiencies. Good nutrition and good eating habits help raise energy levels and increase your positive moods. Try not to indulge too much in junk food. Make a weekly meal plan. This helps you plan ahead for good nutrition. Your grocery list should have lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, proteins and whole grains on it.

Exercise

Moderate exercise is a good way to lower stress and release endorphins. These are the feel-good chemicals in the brain. You will also feel better about your appearance and have more confidence. A good exercise program is one that you will want to stick to. Bring a friend with you so you both motivate each other to stick with your routine.

Get A Good Night’s Sleep

One important part of a healthy body is sleep. Sleep restores your wellbeing. Being on a good sleep pattern will help you in many ways. Some alcoholics have difficulty sleeping because of the way in which alcohol disrupts the brain’s chemistry and makes it hard to sleep regularly.

With good sleep habits the brain regulates its chemicals and can go into deep sleep and states of REM. You can reap these as you train yourself back into good sleep patterns.

Getting on a regular sleep pattern will take time. However, you can do things like going to bed at regular times as often as possible. Make sure your room is comfortable and is not too hot or too cold. If you cannot fall asleep after a time move to another room and read for a bit. Then try again.

Try these tips and you will definitely be strengthened in the face of many temptations. Make sure to remain calm, because you have come this far. You must be aware, though, that there are temptations and obstacles that will show up from time to time. You can prepare yourself to face them by arming yourself with tools and techniques that will help you avoid relapsing.

Summer and Drinking

This is the season that can be one of the hardest for alcoholics in recovery. Besides the parties that accompany the holidays and outdoor barbecues, there are ball games and camping trips. Should you find yourself feeling restless and alone, seek out the company of positive and supportive friends and family members. For many people, just knowing that they have that kind of emotional support standing by is enough to help keep them in a positive frame of mind.

Stick with Your Aftercare Program

Going back to a normal routine with no alcohol can be difficult sometimes. When emotional issues come up, you might find it hard to face them without alcohol. It can also be hard to resume family relationships or friendships because of conflicts and issues that come up which you have to deal with.

Always stick to your weekly appointments with your therapist or your group. Get the support and help that you need to continue healing and get the tools you need to cope.

Follow these tips and you will be strengthened in the face of any temptation. Remember to be patient with yourself, you have come this far!
